Jodhpur/Jaipur: Tensions escalated Wednesday in the aftermath of Dr Rakesh Vishnoi’s suicide as resident doctors staged a two-hour strike at Jodhpur’s SN Medical College, while the Rajasthan Medical College Teachers’ Association (RMCTA) came out in support of the accused department head. The matter has highlighted deep-seated issues within the institution, prompting calls for a thorough investigation and immediate administrative action.Vishnoi, who allegedly consumed a toxic substance on June 13, succumbed to his injuries at SMS Hospital, Jaipur, on June 14. Before his death, he recorded a video accusing Dr Raj Kumar Rathore, head of the pharmacology department, of harassment related to his thesis work. In response to the allegations, RMCTA has come forward in defence of Dr Rathore, urging the authorities to refrain from taking any action against him or other faculty members without an investigation. The association emphasised Dr Rathore’s commendable academic and administrative record. It stressed that any decisions regarding the matter should be free from external pressures, urging the chief minister to ensure a fair investigation.Simultaneously, the Resident Doctors Association (RDA) in Jodhpur expressed dissatisfaction with the administration’s handling of the case. Resident doctors staged a two-hour pen-down strike, disrupting services across various departments.RDA president Heeralal Yadav criticised the lack of action, stating that the silence from the administration undermines trust in the medical system. The association has demanded the immediate removal of Dr Rathore from his position.Dr Vishnoi’s family and resident doctors continued to stage a dharna at the SMS Hospital mortuary.
