Jaipur: An MBBS student, who was admitted to SMS Hospital ICU Monday after being airlifted from Kazakhstan, has been diagnosed with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) which is caused by bleeding in the area between the brain and the thin tissues that cover and protect the brain. The 22-year-old student has been identified as Rahul Ghosalya, a resident of Shahpura, Jaipur. “His condition is critical,” Dr Deepak Maheshwari, principal of SMS Medical College, told TOI. His family sought support from the govt and social organisations to bring him to India for treatment after he fell unconscious on Oct 8 in Kazakhstan. Several social organisations supported the family’s efforts to arrange his return to India for advanced treatment. Before he was admitted to the medical ICU, the doctors conducted a CT scan of his brain. They found that SAH was caused either by the rupture or leakage of an aneurysm, which is a bulge in the wall of an artery. tnn
