Kota: Alleging severe thrashing and torture by police as the cause of death, the kin of a 23-year-old man, who allegedly hanged himself at Indergarh police station Tuesday evening, demanded suspension of the entire station staff as well as compensation of Rs 50 lakh, and refused postmortem till late Wednesday evening.The deceased, Dinesh Saini, a resident of Karwar village, had eloped with a minor girl of the area a few days ago and was arrested from Jaipur. He was in police custody on charges of Pocso Act and allegedly hanged himself around 5.30pm in a room at Indergarh police station. Police brought him in unconscious state to a local hospital, where doctors put him on oxygen and referred him by ambulance to a higher medical centre in Kota. He died on the way and was declared brought dead at a hospital in Kota.Senior police officers avoided commenting on the incident, with Bundi SP Rajendra Kumar Meena and ASP Uma Sharma not responding to calls and messages from this reporter, while Kota IG Rajendra Prasad Goyal’s mobile phone remained “unavailable”.The Bundi SP has reportedly ordered the entire staff of Indergarh police station to be sent to lines and has ordered an inquiry into the custodial death, though no official press release was issued to this effect till Wednesday evening.Dinesh’s family members, relatives, and members of Saini community assembled at Indergarh police station Tuesday night and raised slogans against police. They also gathered outside the mortuary at the Kota govt hospital and continued their demonstration while refusing postmortem of the body.They alleged Dinesh was kept in police custody illegally for 2-3 days and beaten and tortured severely, resulting in his death at the police station. They demanded suspension of the entire staff of the police station and compensation of Rs 50 lakh to kin, said Mahaveer Suman, an office bearer of Mali Samaj organisation.
