Jaipur: Nagaur Police arrested a 35-year-old man from Bikaner Thursday for allegedly abducting and raping a married woman in July by falsely claiming that her husband was in an accident and later assaulting her. Police have identified the suspect as Shravanram Jat, a resident of Gotan and currently living in Mahadev Nagar on Medta Road, Bikaner. He was wanted in a case registered under sections of abduction, assault, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.According to police, the accused went to the woman’s house on the pretext of informing her about her husband’s accident. Shocked by the news, she accompanied him, after which he allegedly confined her in a room at an undisclosed location and assaulted her repeatedly for nearly a month. When the woman protested, the accused allegedly threatened to kill her husband. She eventually managed to escape and reach her in-laws’ home. Later, the accused went there at night, issued threats, and hurled caste-based abuses.Based on her complaint, a case was registered at the police station on Aug 20. The accused switched off his phone and was in hiding since. Acting on a tip-off that he was staying in the Jamsar police station area of Bikaner, a team from Medtarod police, with the help of local police, tracked him down and arrested him after interrogation. Police said the accused is being questioned about his movements while absconding and the place where he kept the woman confined.“The accused planned the entire conspiracy and went to the woman’s house when her husband was away and she was alone,” said an official, adding that the electronic evidence has been recovered from the accused’s mobile phone for further investigation.
