Bhilwara: Five people were detained for allegedly beating a man to death on suspicion of theft in Chittorgarh Wednesday.The accused has been identified as Shankar Singh, a resident of Mangrop village in Bhilwara district. Villagers protested outside the mortuary of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara and took out a rally from the mortuary to Bhilwara Collectorate demanding compensation of Rs 50 lakh and employment for the next of kin of deceased. Bhilwara collector Jasmeet Singh Sandhu assured appropriate action in the matter after which the villagers agreed for post-mortem. Chittorgarh SP Manish Tripathi said several teams were formed. Five people were detained, while four youths working as waiters at the hotel were also being questioned, he said. Shankar worked at a tyre company shop in Bhilwara Transport Nagar. Family members alleged that Shankar went to eat at Mahadev Hotel located in Gangrar, Chittorgarh district, where he was beaten on suspicion of theft. They alleged that when Shankar collapsed unconscious, family members were told on phone to bring Rs 38,000 and take him away. When family members reached to take Shankar, they found him unconscious. He was brought to Bhilwara district hospital where doctors declared him dead after examination.
