Jaipur: Energy minister Heeralal Nagar has directed officials to ensure that all Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a cumulative capacity of 6,000 MWh are made operational by Sept, underlining the urgency of strengthening the state’s renewable energy infrastructure. At a high-level review meeting, Nagar assessed the progress of ongoing BESS projects across Rajasthan and asked officials to expedite construction, streamline approvals and resolve bottlenecks to meet the deadline. The minister emphasised that BESS projects are crucial for managing intermittency in renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, especially as Rajasthan expands its green energy capacity. “Timely commissioning of these storage systems will ensure grid stability and enhance energy reliability,” he said.Projects are part of a broader push aligned with the Centre’s clean energy goals. Once operational, the storage systems will help store excess renewable energy generated during peak production hours and supply it during periods of high demand.Senior officials said land allocation, transmission connectivity and financial closures have been key focus areas in recent months. Developers have been asked to adhere strictly to timelines, with regular monitoring mechanisms in place.Rajasthan, already among the country’s leading renewable energy producers, is positioning itself as a frontrunner in energy storage adoption. Successful implementation of these BESS projects is expected to play a key role in ensuring round-the-clock clean power supply and supporting the state’s long-term energy transition goals. With the Sept deadline approaching, the state govt’s focus remains on execution, signalling a shift from planning to delivery in its clean energy roadmap.
