Jaipur: Following a significant demolition operation Friday that targeted 20 buildings near a mosque in Chomu town, the local self govt (LSG) department is set to send recovery notices to the owners of the razed structures for costs of the demolition. The demolitions were related to the owners’ alleged involvement in stone-pelting incidents against police on the night of Dec 25-26.Speaking to TOI, a senior official of LSG dept stated Saturday, “Generally, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) officials issue recovery notices in case of such drives. This is to ensure that the errant owner(s) of a building pays the amount the civic body had incurred to demolish a portion of or the entire building.”Following the violence on the night of Dec 25-26, the Chomu Nagar Palika issued notices against the owners of 20 buildings. Notices were served against another three buildings alleging that they had been constructed without necessary documents. Officials sealed these three buildings and said they would take further action if the owners didn’t make applications for land conversion within a stipulated time.Officials of Chomu Nagar Palika stated that if the govt sent the recovery notices, it would be the first time for an area under the civic body, located around 35km from Jaipur.“It was the first time that the civic body had embarked on a large-scale demolition drive. Earlier we have conducted several drives against encroachments, but never razed portions of 20 buildings together,” stated Sandeep Singh Kaviya, health inspector of Chomu Nagar Palika, who was in charge of the enforcement drive on Friday.
