Jaipur: Locals from Gathwadi in Jamwaramgarh Friday staged a protest outside a govt English Medium School after the education department declared the school building unsafe and gave instructions for shifting. Locals protested, stating that the school is being moved far from the area, which will require students to cross the Manoharpur-Dausa highway.“An order was issued to vacate the school overnight, which is impossible. The school is being shifted 2km away, and to reach the school, students will have to cross a state highway. If the school building has become dilapidated, then the education department should have looked for another alternative building somewhere nearby, which is already populated and not secluded,” said Ravi Meena, a local resident.A preliminary survey by the state education department found that 5,500 school buildings across the state are unsafe and need to be rebuilt completely. Officials from the Jaipur education department said, “Alternate arrangements are being made so that children get a safe environment for studies.”In another development, amid safety inspections of govt school buildings across Rajasthan, the district education office in Bikaner was found unsafe for use and shifted to a different building this week. Officials said that the office was operating from a building over 100 years old.“The second floor of the building where the district education office secondary was functioning was also in poor condition and needs repairs. During the inspection, this issue was also raised, after which the office was shifted to another govt building in Bikaner this week,” said a senior official. The state education department has given strict instructions to officials and teachers that no teaching or administrative work is done from unsafe infrastructure.
