Jaipur: Labour inspector Shankar Lal Balai was popular in his native village of Bokdawas near Phagi for helping locals with education and employment. “Balai was deeply rooted in the village. He helped students in need and even secured factory jobs for several youths,” said Mehraj Singh, a resident of Bokdawas.“Though he moved to Jaipur, he spent every weekend in the village,” Balai’s father, Sukha Ram, said, attributing his son’s death to his generous nature. “Balai arranged the engagement between his cousin and Ajay Katariya, the man who killed him,” Ram added.
