Kerala man heldfor blackmailingRAS officer’s wife,duping her of 7.5L

Ajmer: Police on Sunday arrested a man from Kerala for allegedly duping the wife of an RAS officer of Rs 7.50 lakh after blackmailing her while posing as a department of telecommunications (DoT) official. According to police, Mohammad Ismail, 29, was arrested from Kasaragod in Kerala. They recovered Rs 3.5 lakh from him. On Sept 2, Ruchi Mathur, 48, wife of RAS officer Hemant Swaroop Mathur, reported to Christian Ganj police that on Aug 30, that she received a call from someone claiming to be from the DoT.The caller alleged that her SIM card was used for sending sexual harassment messages and also “charged” her with money laundering, warning her of “digital arrest”. The caller also threatened to suspend her husband. As per police, the caller sent her fake “incriminating” documents via WhatsApp and asked her to keep these matters confidential if she wanted to avoid the charges. He also sought and got some personal details from the woman, including her Aadhar number.On Sept 2, Rs 7.5 lakh were withdrawn from her bank account, prompting her to file a report with the police. A team under additional SP (city) Himanshu Jangid investigated the case and identified the bank account to where the money was transferred and arrested Ismail from Kasaragod.Ismail told police he first researched about the victim on the internet, then called and threatened her. The amount transferred from Mathur’s account was moved to the account of Ismail’s sister. Police said they are working to recover the remaining money.
