Jaipur: Active western disturbances swept across Rajasthan Thursday, kicking up dust storms and cloud cover in the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions as the Met Office forecast a wider spell of rain from Friday.The Met Office said many places across several divisions, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Bikaner and Jodhpur, were likely to receive mild to moderate showers in the coming days, with chances of hailstorms in some areas. Karauli remained the coldest in the state, with a minimum temperature of 5.8°C, the Met Office report said.Weather shifted in the afternoon, with mild showers reported in Sikar and Jaisalmer districts.Jaipur saw a comparatively warmer start, recording a minimum temperature of 12.6°C, nearly 3.8 degrees above normal. The city later logged a maximum of 25.1°C. Cloudy conditions set in around 4 pm. The Met Office forecast a partially cloudy sky on Friday and said there was a possibility of thundershowers. With likely rainfall, temperatures could dip further in and around Jaipur.The Met Office said the spell of western disturbances was likely to continue until January 31. “This is the time when farmers wait for this kind of rainfall, which is popularly known as Mavath. It is beneficial for the crops,” said an officer with the agriculture department.After Karauli, Alwar recorded a minimum of 6.0°C, followed by Vanasthali at 7.9°C, Fatehpur at 8.1°C, Sriganganagar at 8.2°C, Mount Abu at 9.0°C, Churu at 10.4°C, Jaisalmer at 11.7°C, Jodhpur at 12.9°C, and Barmer at 13.4°C.In its forecast, the Met Office said mild to moderate showers were likely in some places in the Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur and Ajmer divisions.
