Jaipur: A group of six masked men in undergarments, in the manner of the notorious “Kachha-Baniyan” gang, attempted to break into a house in Ganesh Nagar under Muhana police station limits late Tuesday night, but fled after being confronted by the family members. According to the complaint filed by the resident, the six men scaled the compound wall of the house and tried to gain entry around midnight. They used a flashlight to peer inside, inadvertently waking the elderly mother sleeping in the hall. She alerted other family members, at which they all woke up and raised an alarm. The intruders broke two windows in an attempt to force their way in. When the family members began shouting, they retaliated by hurling stones, but soon after, fled the scene.Muhana police reached the spot after the incident was reported. Officers examined the premises and reviewed CCTV footage from nearby locations. The footage captured six individuals with their faces covered, confirming the family’s account of the break-in attempt. The “Kachha-Baniyan” gang, notorious for its distinctive modus operandi and history of house break-ins in several parts of the state, has not been active in Jaipur for some time. Their reappearance has raised concerns, with sources in the police—who in the past have investigated the gang—saying that the gang tends to become active during the monsoon and winter seasons. TNN
