Jodhpur: The Cycloner team of Jodhpur Range Police succeeded in arresting a wanted smuggler carrying a cash reward of Rs 35,000 Sunday. Absconding for the past six years, the accused, Magaram, was operating a smuggling network in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Range IG Vikas Kumar said Magaram used to bring 4 to 5 consignments of narcotics each month from MP to the Marwar region. In 2019, while transporting 8 quintals of poppy husk, he abandoned his vehicle and fled when surrounded by police near Pachpadra police station.Illegal weapons and opium were recovered from the vehicle, leading to a case being registered against him under the NDPS Act. In 2023, RGT police caught him again while transporting poppy husk in a Scorpio vehicle. However, after being released on bail, he resumed his smuggling activities.Kumar said the team received information that Magaram was heading towards Gujarat in a truck after making a payment at a petrol pump. Acting on the tip-off, the team tracked him to Kadodara village in Surat, Gujarat.“Eventually, they caught Magaram while he was having a meal at a hotel near the village. When questioned, Magaram initially gave a fake name and address, but under strict interrogation, he revealed his true identity and confessed everything,” said Kumar.
