Jaipur: Amid rising temperatures in Jaipur, a small ‘Net Zero Cooling Station’ on VT Road has become a place of relief for pedestrians, daily wage workers, and passengers waiting for buses. The facility, located near City Park, was started in Dec by Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) in partnership with Mahila Housing Trust under a CSR initiative as a pilot project. The aim of the project is to provide protection from extreme heat to the urban poor and people working in the informal sector, including street vendors, drivers, gig workers, women, senior citizens, and other members of the public. With temperatures now increasing, the cooling station has begun to attract visitors. The station opens around 7am and remains free for public use till 5.30pm.The cooling station runs on solar energy. Solar panels power the lighting, fans and sprinklers, making the structure environmentally friendly and sustainable. Khus grass panels and cooling arrangements around the structure help keep the inside temperature lower.Inside, mist fans and khus curtains help reduce the impact of high temperatures and provide immediate cooling. The design also includes a wind tower that allows hot air to rise and exit, improving air circulation. Drinking water, ORS, and first-aid kit are also available.
