Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Friday held a meeting with various telecom service providers and ISPs regarding the unauthorised installation of aerial cables in the walled city. The aim is to preserve the heritage and aesthetic appeal of the walled city. The meeting was chaired by superintendent engineer Nitin Sharma and deputy commissioner (Revenue-I) Manoj Kumar Verma, with representatives from multiple telecom firms present. Officials said numerous aerial cables were laid without approval, often crossing roads haphazardly and posing risks to pedestrians and vehicles. Several cables were also found abandoned or broken, further spoiling the city’s visual appeal.BSNL was directed to submit a list of local operators who leased cables in the heritage zone within three days. All companies were strictly instructed not to lay any new aerial cables or carry out road crossings.JMC ordered that all unused or defunct cables should be removed from poles within seven days. Failure to comply would prompt JMC to remove the cables at companies’ expense, authorities warned.
