Jaipur: With Navratri underway, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage (JMC-H) has announced strict measures on the operations of meat and fish shops across the city for the next 10 days. Only licenced outlets will be allowed to function by following stringent guidelines. Acting mayor of JMC-H, Kusum Yadav, said, “During the remaining days of Navratri, only licenced meat and fish shops will remain open. Shopkeepers must ensure that meat is neither visible to devotees nor displayed outside. They are required to use glass enclosures or heavy curtains and maintain strict cleanliness inside their shops.” She added that while meat shops remain shut Tuesdays and Saturdays as per routine, licenced shops can operate on other days, provided they comply with the restrictions. JMC-H’s veterinary officer, Yogesh Sharma, said similar directives have been issued to non-vegetarian restaurants. “They cannot display or prepare meat outside their premises. Cooking must take place within kitchens, and food should be served indoors. Any violation will invite strict action — fines will be imposed, and shops may even be sealed,” he warned. Officials said the restrictions are intended to ensure respect for religious sentiments during Navratri while also keeping the city’s hygiene standards intact.
