Jhunjhunu encroachment drive halts after employees allege bias

Jhunjhunu: The municipal council’s encroachment drive was halted Thursday, the fourth day of the campaign, after council employees accused officials of discrimination and refused to continue the operation. The drive on Road Number 2 was progressing smoothly until workers objected to certain encroachments being spared near the scrap market.Employees claimed influential individuals were being favoured. “When poor people’s encroachments were not spared, they are now asking us not to seize goods from big people’s encroachments. This will not be tolerated,” said sanitation worker Naresh. Revenue Officer Angesh Kumawat and Sanitation Inspector Ali Hasan attempted to pacify them, but workers boycotted the action, forcing the drive to stop. Kumawat said discussions will be held with employees and assured that no discrimination occurred earlier nor would happen in future.
