Udaipur: Three people died on the spot and 17 others were injured after a public transport jeep carrying 27 passengers, much more than its capacity, fell into a gorge in Kotda area of Udaipur Wednesday afternoon. The jeep was travelling from Bilwan to Kotda when it suffered a sudden brake failure while climbing, police said. The driver tried to control the vehicle, but it veered off the road and fell into an approximately 60-foot-deep gorge.Local people began rescue work immediately. After receiving information, Kotda police and a 108 ambulance reached the spot. The injured were taken to Kotda govt hospital, from where seven seriously injured people were referred to Udaipur. The deceased were identified as Kalu Garasia (25), Reshmi Garasia (35), and Suresh Garasia (8). Most of the passengers were residents of Maldar village in Mandwa police station area.Kotda is a tribal area where more than 120 jeeps operate for public transport and are often overloaded.
