JDA plans elevated corridor over Dravyavati River channel

Jaipur: Jaipur may soon get its longest elevated road, with the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) planning a corridor over the rejuvenated Dravyavati River stretch. The civic body is preparing a detailed project report (DPR) to assess the feasibility of the project and its implementation.According to JDA officials, one of the biggest advantages of the proposed project is that it would require little to no land acquisition, as there are hardly any high-rise structures along the riverbanks.“The river along with its banks has a width of 150 feet with no major high structures. This means, the amount of land acquisition for this project will be bare minimum. If the project is feasible, it would be one of JDA’s most challenging projects,” stated a JDA engineer. In 2018, JDA rejuvenated a 47-km stretch of the Dravyavati River from Majar Dam to Goner. As part of that project, the authority set up four sewerage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 170 MLD. The riverbanks were also developed with cycling and jogging tracks, gardens and four parks. Properties along both sides of the river were sold by highlighting the riverfront development.“The DPR would help us to figure out whether we can construct the elevated road on the entire 47 km stretch. Else, we may construct more than one flyover covering specific stretches,” another engineer added.JDA will spend Rs 6 crore on preparing the DPR. The proposal was approved at the recent Projects Work Committee meeting of the civic body.
