JAISALMER: The smuggling of narcotics from across the India–Pakistan border in Sri Ganganagar district shows no signs of slowing down. For the second consecutive day on Monday, security agencies achieved a major breakthrough by busting a large heroin smuggling module originating from Pakistan.Acting on credible inputs from the BSF Intelligence Branch, alert BSF personnel, in coordination with the police, recovered around ₹12 crore worth of heroin dropped by Pakistani smugglers using a drone in the border area of the Srikaranpur sector. The seized consignment weighed approximately 2.240 kg and was packed in three packets of 500 grams each. However, the smugglers who had arrived to collect the consignment managed to escape amid tight security. A joint search operation is currently underway in the area.According to official BSF sources, the intelligence branch had received specific information that a heroin consignment would be dropped via drone from across the Pakistan border in the Karanpur area. Based on this input, BSF heightened vigilance along the international border and set up special checkpoints in multiple locations under the jurisdiction of BOP 3 FC.Late Sunday night and early Monday morning, BSF personnel heard the sound of a drone approaching from the Pakistan side and something being dropped in a खेत (field). Acting swiftly, they launched a search operation and recovered three packets near BOP 3 FC. Upon examination, the packets were found to contain 2.240 kg of heroin, valued at approximately ₹12 crore in the international market.Following the recovery, BSF informed the police and initiated a joint search and blockade operation. Due to heightened vigilance, the smugglers who had come to collect the consignment fled the scene. Police teams are actively searching for them. Sri Ganganagar Superintendent of Police Harishankar Yadav stated that during patrolling, Sub-Inspector Malaram of Srikaranpur Police Station received information from Sub-Inspector Atul Sharma of 163 Battalion BSF (in-charge BOP 3 FPC) regarding suspected heroin in a field belonging to Dilbagh Singh.On Monday, a joint team comprising police personnel and BSF officials recovered a total of 2.340 kg of heroin, allegedly smuggled from Pakistan via drone, along with a black bag, a jacket, a warm shawl, a lower, and two pairs of shoes. A case (No. 76/2026) has been registered under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act against unknown accused. The smugglers managed to escape, and efforts are ongoing to trace them.The SP further added that earlier, on the intervening night of Saturday–Sunday, 12.167 kg of heroin worth approximately ₹60 crore was seized from a kinnow orchard in Chak 19-O under the same police station limits, with four persons arrested on the spot. A notorious Punjab-based smuggler, Gurmel Singh, who is believed to be the mastermind behind coordinating drone deliveries from Pakistani smugglers, managed to escape. Efforts are underway to apprehend him.Notably, a few days ago, five smugglers were also arrested in the Rawla area of the district with 12 kg of heroin smuggled from Pakistan. During interrogation, it was revealed that they had successfully transported another 12 kg consignment to Punjab earlier. These repeated incidents indicate that the Srikaranpur and Ghadsana sectors have become prime targets for cross-border smuggling networks involving Indian and Pakistani operatives.
