Jairangam festival to stage theatre production from New Zealand

Jaipur: The 14th edition of Jairangam, which will be held between Dec 18 and 21 at the Jawahar Kala Kendra will for the first time stage a theatre production from New Zealand. The event will also commemorate the birth anniversary of the Bollywood legend Guru Dutta.“The Girmit,” directed by Samina Zehra, is a theatre production from New Zealand. It would be staged in India for the first time. We are also going to host a unique dastangoi event, named Dastaan-e-Guru Dutt, in memory of the legendary artist,” an organiser stated.Along with this, the four-day event will also feature 11 theatre productions, musical performances, exhibitions and several other cultural programmes.Festival director Mann Gera said, “This year the festival has been designed keeping women at the centre. Seven of the 11 plays are directed by women theatre directors.”The festival will begin Thursday with the staging of Makarand Deshpande’s play, “Einstein” for children at the Krishnayan Auditorium.“For the first time, heritage walks will be organised at Jairangam, covering three routes – from Gem Cinema to Sanganeri Gate, Badi Chaupar to Hawa Mahal and Town Hall to Ram Prakash Theatre, offering insights into Jaipur’s architecture, culture and everyday life,” an organiser added.
