Jaipur: An additional chief judicial magistrate court here Friday acquitted Bidya Bhushan Mohanty, former Director General of Home Guards, of the charges that he obstructed Rajasthan police’s attempts to arrest his son, Bitti Hotra H Mohanty, who was convicted in the 2006 rape case of a German woman.The case stemmed from a complaint by the then Jaipur jail superintendent in Jan 2007, following Bitti’s failure to surrender post-parole. Judge Love Prajapati presided over the case, which centered on accusations that Bidya Bhushan harboured his son after Bitti failed to return from parole. The court concluded that the prosecution did not prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Despite the prosecution presenting testimony from several police officers who traveled to Odisha for the arrest, none corroborated the claims against Bidya Bhushan. Defence attorney Bansidhar Badaya emphasised the lack of credible evidence, stating that even the Investigating Officer acknowledged no obstruction occurred.
