Jaipur airport deploys AI-driven lost and found service with 85% recovery rate

Jaipur: Jaipur International Airport (JIA) has introduced an AI-enabled automated lost and found service that has recorded an 85% recovery rate. The service is part of efforts to improve efficiency, enhance transparency, and enable seamless travel experiences for passengers.Airport officials said the use of AI for the detection of lost and found items was started in April, and the process was digitised over the next few months. An analysis of data for the past 90 days shows an impressive 85% recovery rate of lost items, they added. The system uses AI-powered cameras that capture, log, and upload images of a lost item while documenting its description, location, date and time. These details are then uploaded to the airport’s website. “The new system enables passengers to access their lost item status anytime through the airport’s website, offering on-the-go convenience, an airport spokesperson said. With JIA being one of the busiest airports in Rajasthan — managing over 60 lakh passengers and with nearly 120 air traffic movements every day — instances of lost items are common. The instant response AI system enables faster handovers of lost items to passengers, the spokesperson said, adding that it has significantly reduced the stress associated with misplaced belongings.“We are working towards integrating more AI-driven solutions to bolster our services,” the spokesperson added. While similar services are available at other airports in the country, JIA is the only location operating 24/7 AI-enabled lost and found services at both terminals, officials said.
