India’s Tanvi Khanna, Anjali Semwal, Shamina Riaz, Pooja Aarti reach HCL India Tour Squash quarters; top seed Yassin Shahody of Egypt begins on winning note in men’s section

Jaipur: India’s Tanvi Khanna, Anjali Semwal, Shamina Riaz, and Pooja Aarti won their respective matches on Tuesday at the HCL India Tour Squash tournament being played here at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium courts, securing their spots in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the top seed in the men’s category, Egypt’s Yassin Shahody, also advanced comfortably into the last eight.In the women’s pre-quarterfinals, Tanvi Khanna defeated India’s Ratika Seelan 11-5, 11-3, 11-1; Anjali Semwal beat Isha Srivastava 3-11, 11-3, 6-11, 12-10, 11-9; Shamina Riaz overcame Anika Dubey 11-8, 11-1, 10-12, 12-10; and Pooja Aarti trounced Janet Vidhi 11-3, 11-4, 11-8 to seal their places in the last eight.Other players reaching the last-eight stage include Egypt’s Nour Khafagi, who dismissed India’s Mahak Talati 11-2, 11-1, 11-3; Egypt’s Menna Walid ousted India’s Aradhana Podwal 11-8, 11-7, 11-9; Japan’s Akari Midorikawa thumped India’s Unnati Tripathi 11-3, 11-9, 7-11, 11-2, while Malaysia’s Goh Jin Juan got the better of India’s Sunita Patel 11-3, 11-3, 11-5.In the men’s category, top seed Yassin Shahody of Egypt lost the first set 7-11 to India’s Ayaan Wazir Ali but came back strongly to win the next three sets 11-1, 11-6, 13-11 to move up. Sri Lanka’s Ravindu Laskiri accounted for India’s Aryaveer Diwan 11-9, 11-4, 7-11, 11-3 to reach the last eight. In other pre-quarterfinal outings, Egypt’s Saif Rafay outclassed India’s Suraj Chand 12-10, 11-7, 11-5, while Japan’s Naoki Hayashi prevailed over Hong Kong’s Harley Lam 11-8, 12-14, 11-9, 11-9 to enter the quarters.Surbhi Misra, vice president of the Squash Racket Federation of India, stated that the men’s and women’s quarterfinal matches will be played on Wednesday.
