Jaipur: Residents of Naina Vihar Colony, situated near Kesar Chowk in the Muhana Mandi area, are voicing their exasperation over persistent waterlogging problems that have plagued the area for the past four to five years. Despite repeated appeals to local authorities, the situation remains unresolved, leaving many families struggling with the aftermath of heavy rains. The colony, settled around 1996, has been experiencing regular flooding due to an incomplete sewer line, resulting in stagnant dirty water on the streets that disrupt daily life. Children are particularly affected, with parents reporting that school vans are unable to navigate the flooded roads, forcing students to miss classes. Mohan Lal Sharma, a long-time resident, expressed his concerns, saying, “We have been suffering from waterlogging for a very long time. Now, the situation is so bad that our children can’t even go to school because the roads are flooded during heavy rain.” Despite repeated appeals to their ward 83 councillor, Shankar Bajdoliya, the residents’ concerns have gone unaddressed. In a bid to address the issue, residents took their grievances to the ongoing ‘Shahar Chalo Abhiyan’ pre-camp organised by the local self-government department, hoping for administrative intervention. However, they were informed that the municipal corporation is responsible only for maintaining existing drainage systems and does not oversee the installation of incomplete sewer lines. The response left the residents feeling helpless and ignored. Another resident, Mahesh Chandra Saini, highlighted the difficulties they face in seeking assistance from the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA). He stated, “We approached the JDA several times but it kept saying the colony was not approved. We have the legal documents and my land’s lease is from 1998. How can JDA claim the colony is unapproved when all basic amenities like electricity and water are provided here?” Paperwork is ready; only Detailed Project Report (DPR) is pending .
