Jaipur’s parking crisis is a growing concern, with civic authorities seemingly turning a blind eye. Residents are left to navigate the chaos, hoping for a solution to restore order.Gopalpura: Coaching Hub or Parking Mess?Gopalpura, renowned for its coaching centers, is now infamous for its parking chaos. Despite having wide roads, the lack of designated parking spaces at these centers has led to rampant illegal parking. Two-wheelers clutter footpaths, while auto-rickshaws, vans, and four-wheelers double-park during peak hours. “There’s barely space to walk,” laments Priya Chaudhary, a local resident. “You can’t blame people entirely, but the administration’s absence has made it worse.” Digvendra Singh, who works for a private company in Gopalpura area, says, “The sheer volume of coaching institutes along this road is the primary reason for daily congestion.”Basant Vihar: Roads or Private Driveways? In Basant Vihar, Gopalpura, the distinction between roads and parking areas has blurred. Residents complain that roads are treated like private driveways, exacerbating the parking crisis. With no enforcement from authorities, the situation continues to deteriorate. Local resident Ajay Verma added, “The crowding has turned Gopalpura into ‘Jampura’. The daily commute has become a battle.” Adarsh Nagar: Parks Blocked by CarsAdarsh Nagar’s public park, a popular spot for morning walks and family outings, faces its own parking woes. The park’s entrance is frequently obstructed by rows of parked cars, making it nearly invisible to visitors. GT Central Mall: Footpaths as ‘Free Parking’ The GT Central Mall, a daily attraction for thousands, exemplifies the parking menace. Two-wheelers are often parked on footpaths, treated as ‘free parking’ zones. A local paan shop owner notes, “If your vehicle is still there when you return, you’re lucky. If not, you’ll have to visit the police station to recover it.” Ironically, a Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater operated paid parking zone exists here, but it is plagued by issues like overcharging and lack of parking slips. Speaking about the bike parking near GT Central, Hardik Tak said, “This isn’t a legal parking zone; people just leave their two-wheelers here for convenience. If parked off the pavement, there’s always a chance it might get towed.”JLN Marg: Hospital Access BlockedEven the Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital on Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg is not spared. Cars frequently block the service lane and emergency entry, ignoring clear ‘No Parking, No Standing’ signs. The lack of enforcement exacerbates the problem. Adarsh Bazar: A Traffic Jam HotspotAdarsh Bazar near Tonk Phatak is another area suffering from parking chaos. Every corner is crammed with randomly parked vehicles, leading to prolonged traffic jams. Narayan Lal, a stationery shop owner, observes, “The municipal team comes, sees the mess, and simply walks away.”
