Jaipur: Despite multiple eviction drives, the illegal vegetable market in Lalkothi continues to return every evening, posing a persistent challenge for Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater (JMC-G). The area remains choked with litter, congestion, and chaos, leaving local residents frustrated and pedestrians struggling to find space on the footpaths.JMC-G’s team once again attempted to clear the area, removing both pushcarts and vendors selling vegetables while sitting on the ground Thursday. For a while, the stretch was visibly clear. However, like every time, the vendors returned by evening, reclaiming their spots as if nothing happened. The result was the same old scene of garbage piles, blocked walkways, and yet another symbolic loss for the civic authorities.Speaking on the repeated failures of such operations, JMC-G commissioner Gaurav Saini, said, “We will continue trying. Today’s action was stricter because these vendors have now started encroaching on the main road itself which has led to a spike in public complaints. We cannot allow this to continue for long.”When asked how the authorities plan to prevent the vendors from returning every evening, Saini added, “Our sanitation inspectors are trying to counsel them, but clearly, that’s not working. Still, we’re not giving up. We will persist with stronger measures if required.”Residents of the area said the illegal market has become a daily nuisance. Apart from the mess and traffic issues, the market has made it difficult for people, especially children, senior citizens, and pedestrians, to walk safely.
