Bhilwara: Bhilwara police Friday arrested five members of an organised honeytrap gang, including a man facing multiple serious criminal charges, for extorting money from unsuspecting victims. Pur police and the district special team (DST) arrested three men and two women, including 27-year-old Sheru Mali, a repeat offender facing six cases of murder, attempted murder, assault and possession of illegal firearms. The action followed a complaint lodged on Sept 11, when a man approached Pur police alleging, he was honeytrapped two months ago. According to the complaint, a woman contacted him over phone, claiming to help clear work tenders for Suwana Panchayat, and lured him to meet on a highway. While he waited in his car, two women approached and one sat with him, before four men on motorcycles blocked his vehicle. They accused him of abducting their sister, assaulted him and dragged him to a deserted stone mine. There, the gang threatened to film and release an inappropriate video unless he paid Rs 1 crore. Terrified of defamation, the victim managed to arrange Rs 5.5 lakh from an acquaintance, but the gang continued to demand the balance of Rs 4.5 lakh. Police registered a case under sections 189(2) and 308(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. Using technical surveillance, they arrested Mali along with Kailash Jat (29), Piyush Damani (20), Nirmala Chundawat (22) and Neetu Harijan (23). SP Dharmendra Singh Yadav said the gang admitted to trapping several others in similar cases, which are now under probe.
