Jaipur: In a stern warning, a division bench of the Rajasthan High Court Thursday ordered the Jaipur Municipal Corporation – Heritage (JMC-H) to demolish all illegal constructions in the Walled City area within two months. It also called for stringent action against negligent govt officials in the matter, and directed heritage officials to submit a compliance report before the next hearing on Dec 3.The order was passed by a bench comprising justices Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Sanjeet Purohit on a PIL filed by citizen Sanjay Joshi. The petitioner had raised concerns about heritage houses in the Walled City being razed and replaced with new structures in violation of various building regulations. These include violations of setback requirements, parking norms, local by-laws, and the Walled City Building Regulations of 2022. The court also singled out the inaction of the Hawa Mahal zone deputy commissioner and other officials concerned in the matter, who, despite issuing ‘final notices’ to violators, failed to take effective follow-up action for over six months.
