Udaipur: Half-charred body of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of traffic police was found in his house under Savina police station area in Udaipur Tuesday.The deceased, identified as Rakesh Meena (47), was posted in Bhiliya Phanda area. According to the police, the ASI’s wife had called him several times Monday night, but he did not answer any of them. She called him again in the morning, but the call was not received again. After this, she got worried and asked a neighbour to go to their house and check on her husband. The neighbour reached the house and knocked on the door for a long time, but no one responded. At that time, the neighbour smelled smoke and suspected something was wrong. He informed the police, who arrived and broke down the door and found the man’s burnt body on the bed.Station officer Bhawarlal said that Meena was alone at home, while his wife and children had gone to their ancestral village, Kotputli. The fire had broken out in the same room where he was lying, he said.Police said that in the initial investigation, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained. The fire could have started on the bed, which had been completely burnt, and the ASI died after getting caught in it. Udaipur traffic DSP Ashok Anjana said that Meena had been absent from duty since Dec 21. He had previously been absent from work several times, he said.The body was later handed over to the family members after the post-mortem.
