Jaisalmer: A massive fire gutted the Golden Handloom showroom in Fatehgarh area of Jaisalmer district late Thursday night, reducing the three-storey building to ashes and causing losses worth crores. All handloom fabrics, furniture and materials were destroyed within few hours.Eyewitnesses said the fire spread rapidly, with a short circuit suspected as the cause. As the showroom was closed, the blaze went unnoticed initially. Locals tried to douse the flames using buckets and pipes, alleging that fire brigade vehicles arrived after a delay of 2–3 hours, by which time the entire building was engulfed.No casualties were reported. Police remained on the spot to manage the situation. Residents and traders expressed anger over alleged administrative negligence, claiming earlier demands for fire services in the area were ignored.Senior officials, including Fatehgarh SDM Bharat Raj and tehsildar Nakhat Singh Sagar reached the site and said the cause of the fire would be investigated while considering the compensation for damages and preventive measures to be examined.tnn
