Jaipur: Central Park Bachao Committee (CPBC) has filed a complaint with JDA commissioner Siddharth Mahajan alleging that the Rambagh Golf Club (RGC) has occupied the surface of the newly built underground parking lot in Central Park soon after the civic body completed the construction work.In a letter to the commissioner, committee members have requested that the area be made accessible to all, failing which they will file a petition in the high court for redressal.Speaking to TOI, CPBC president Yogesh Yadav claimed that JDA laid the surface and installed lights by spending public money, but golf club authorities installed barricades and posted bouncers to prevent Central Park visitors from using the space, and that it was being used exclusively by club members.“A high court order says the entire Central Park shall be accessible to the public. These are Jaipur’s lungs. How can JDA allow a private club to exclusively use public space developed with public money? How can the state govt foot the bill of electricity for public lights to be utilised by only a private club? We will move court if JDA doesn’t stop this,” Yadav said.Officials from RGC and JDA commissioner Siddharth Mahajan were not available for comments. However, a senior JDA official disclosed that before construction of the parking lot started, there was an understanding between the golf club and the Urban Development and Housing (UDH) department that the surface of the underground parking lot would be given to the golf club to be used as an exclusive parking lot for members. “Whether JDA can hand over the space to a private club is a matter of debate. But there was definitely an understanding,” the official said.CPBC has already filed a petition in Rajasthan high court alleging JDA was constructing a building inside Central Park and handing it over to RGC in violation of court orders.
