Jaipur: On the third death anniversary of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, former CM Ashok Gehlot said on Saturday the BJP exploited the case for political benefits and blamed the Centre for delaying justice to the family for over three years. Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Udaipur, was hacked to death allegedly by Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Ghouse Mohammed at his shop on June 28, 2022.Gehlot accused the Centre and NIA of getting only 6 out of 166 witnesses to testify in the case even after three years. “No special court or fast-track court has been set up for this heinous case. Currently, it is being handled as an additional charge by the CBI court. It is deeply saddening that even after three years, justice has not been served to him and his family. The BJP heavily politicised this case but did not make efforts for justice, despite it being a clear case with the entire crime and confession recorded on video,” he said.Gehlot also alleged that a film on Kanhaiya Lal’s murder will help BJP reap political benefits, while justice eludes the victim’s family. “Everyone knows who will benefit politically from this film. I believe that if NIA did not take this case from Rajasthan police, the culprits would have been sentenced long ago. In this case, the accused were arrested within four hours. That same night, NIA took over the case, and justice is still awaited,” Gehlot said.
