Jhunjhunu: Even though there is still time for municipal elections in the state, Sardarshahar in Churu has become a political hotspot. Both the ruling party and the Opposition are upset with BJP’s Rajkaran Chaudhary, the current chairman, and have planned to remove him through a no-confidence motion. However, Congress‘s plan was thwarted when the election officer appointed by the district election officer did not attend the meeting Friday, resulting in the floor test not taking place. On May 30, 44 out of 55 councillors signed a no-confidence motion against chairman Rajkaran Chaudhary in the presence of Churu ADM at the collectorate. Following the rebellion, collector Abhishek Surana scheduled a meeting for June 27 at the Sardarshahar Municipal Council. According to the order and schedule, the floor test was to be conducted after the meeting at 11am Friday. Congress, led by Sardarshahar MLA Anil Sharma, and the rebel BJP councillors arrived at the council at 11am, but the election officer, Sujangarh ADM Mangalaram, was absent.Later, it was reported that the officer was hospitalised due to illness. The councillors waited until 1pm when Sardarshahar SDM Divya Chaudhary informed them that the day’s proceedings were cancelled due to the officer’s health issues. The no-confidence motion was brought by 30 Congress and 14 rebel BJP councillors against Chaudhary, but the process was postponed due to the officer’s absence. The floor test will now take place on July 14 according to the collector.
