Five firms bid for 104 Janani Express ambulance contract

Jaipur: Five companies have applied to operate Rajasthan’s 104 Janani Express ambulance service, which has been non-operational since the previous operator’s contract expired and the govt failed to appoint a replacement in time.The earlier service provider’s contract ended on Dec 10. The firm sought an extension an extension of a month, but the govt was unable to decide, neither to extend the contract nor issue a fresh tender in time. As a result, the ambulance services for pregnant mothers came to a grinding halt at the beginning of the year. “Five companies have applied to operate the Janani Express service in the state,” said a senior health department official.Employees affected by the closure of 600 ambulances under the 104 Janani Express ambulance service, meanwhile, have threatened to protest against the govt.State President of the Rajasthan Ambulance Employees Union, Virendra Singh Shekhawat, said the contract of Modern Emergency Services, which was operating the 104 Janani Express ambulance service in the state, expired on Dec 10, 2025. Shekhawat alleged that the medical department’s failure to issue a new tender on time, and the resultant shutting down of the 104 Janani Express ambulance has left 1,200 ambulance employees unemployed.
