Jaipur: Residents of Sikar Road and its adjacent colonies received relief from decades-old sewerage problems as the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) completed the first phase of the Sikar Road drainage project on Monday.Under this phase, JDA completed two packages: laying sewerage lines from Number 1 Crossing to Dravyavati River in Panipench, and connecting this main line with colonies on both sides. “Residents and shopkeepers will see the immediate impact of this project. We need to complete the entire project in two more phases segregated into five more packages,” a JDA engineer said.Officials said the entire project will benefit residents living in a catchment area of 1,096 hectares on both sides of the Sikar Road. Engineers said the stretch of Sikar Road between the Delhi-Ajmer Highway and Chomu Circle is shaped like a bowl with the alignment of both sides higher than the middle portion, making Dahar ka Balaji crossing and adjacent areas vulnerable to waterlogging.Rainwater from this catchment area of around 1,096 hectares floods every monsoon, making it impossible for traffic to move on the important highway. “In 2002-03, when the Jaipur Bus Rapid Transport System was constructed on this road, a drainage line was installed. But it did not have much capacity. The new drainage system will sort out the drainage problem for this area for another 50-60 years,” another official said.In the second phase, JDA plans to construct drains around the Vishwakarma Industrial Area and around the Central Spine.
