First cadaveric organ donation of 2026 at AIIMS Jodhpur saves three lives

Jodhpur: The first cadaveric organ donation of 2026 at AIIMS Jodhpur on Saturday gave a fresh lease of life to three critically ill patients, two in Jodhpur and one in Jaipur.Ane Singh (58), a resident of Khokhra village in Pali district, was admitted to the Emergency Department of AIIMS Jodhpur on Jan 19, after he suddenly lost consciousness at home. Despite intensive medical care, his condition continued to deteriorate and he was later declared brain dead by the medical board, confirming irreversible neurological damage. Following this, the transplant coordination team at AIIMS Jodhpur counselled the family on the possibility of organ donation. After receiving consent, one kidney and the liver were successfully transplanted into patients at AIIMS Jodhpur, while the second kidney was allocated to a recipient at SMS Hospital, Jaipur. Ane Singh’s son, Puran Singh, recalled the sequence of events that led to his father’s hospitalisation. “We immediately took him to the local govt hospital, from where doctors referred him to Bangur Hospital in Pali. But the doctors there further referred him to Jodhpur,” he said. He added, “When we were told that he was brain dead and could not be revived, we were asked to donate his organs. After consultation with the other family members, we gave our consent.” To ensure timely transfer of the kidney to Jaipur, the Jodhpur traffic police and district administration created a dedicated green corridor for smooth transportation. The transplant procedures were carried out under the leadership of Govardhan Dutt Puri, executive director, AIIMS Jodhpur. With this donation, the institute completed its 11th successful cadaveric organ donation.
