Jaipur: In a bizarre tale of greed, black magic, and betrayal, the police investigation into triple homicide in Bikaner’s Khajuwala that occured on June 13 has uncovered a chilling twist — one that has turned the spotlight from an alleged conman to the victims’ own family members.Ghaffar Khan, who had a huge debt, turned to an occult practitioner named M Shiva. Promising supernatural gains, Shiva claimed he could multiply Rs 50 lakh using black magic. Trusting the occultist, Ghaffar along with Shaitan Singh and Vikram Singh — who were known to Ghaffar, and some others, including one Ramswaroop — took part in the ritual at Ghaffar’s home in Khajuwala.But the ceremony turned deadly. After consuming a poisoned offering given by Shiva, the three collapsed — Ghaffar, Vikram Singh and Shaitan Singh died, and two more were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.Initially, police believed that Shiva, a self-proclaimed occultist from Karnataka, had murdered the trio and fled with the cash. But what emerged during the investigation left even the police stunned.As it turned out, not everyone who attended the ritual had passed out. Ghaffar’s son Salman, who ate very little of the offering, remained conscious. He immediately called his mother to report what had happened. Shortly after, several family members arrived at the scene — Ghaffar’s wife, daughter, son-in-law Mustaq Khan, brother-in-law, and two nephews. Shiva was still there when the relatives gathered. But instead of helping the dying men, the relatives allegedly saw an opportunity.According to police, in a moment of collective greed, the family members stole Rs 50 lakh and then assaulted Shiva, forcing him to flee from the scene. They then created a cover story, claiming that Shiva had poisoned the victims and escaped with Rs 50 lakh.The truth began to unravel when police questioned the two surviving participants of the ritual, who are recovering in the hospital. “During questioning, they revealed that Shiva didn’t flee on his own. He was made to flee by family members, who then framed him for the crime,” a police officer said.Further investigation revealed that before hiding the money, Ghaffar’s son-in-law Mustaq Khan secretly took Rs 10 lakh. The remaining Rs 40 lakh was later recovered from Ghaffar’s car. The missing Rs 10 lakh was found during a raid on Mustaq’s house Tuesday.Mustaq, Yunus, Ghaffar’s nephew, and Ramswaroop have been arrested. The rest of the relatives, including Ghaffar’s wife and son, are under investigation for destruction of evidence and misappropriation of cash. Ramswaroop’s wife is a station house officer (SHO) currently posted in Nagaur district.
