Enhanced security in place for Anta bypoll

Jaipur: Ahead of the Anta bypoll scheduled for Nov 11, the state’s election department Saturday announced the deployment of seven companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to ensure security at sensitive and critical polling stations.Around 3,000 security personnel, including state police and forces assigned to each polling party will be present to maintain order during the bypoll.In the 48-hour period prior to the end of voting in the Anta assembly constituency, no political functionary or worker, who is not a voter or a candidate in the constituency, or an MP or an MLA, will be permitted to remain in the constituency after the election campaign ends Sunday. These instructions were issued by district election officer and collector Rohitashva Singh Tomar.He said that to keep a check on the stay of outsiders, people staying in hotels, lodges, marriage halls, dharamshalas, and guest houses of the assembly constituency will be monitored. Besides, the movement of vehicles coming from outside will also be closely monitored at check posts in the constituency boundaries. The stay of outsiders in private houses will also be monitored, he said.In all, 12 Quick Response Teams, 43 mobile parties, 43 sector magistrates, 12 police supervisory officers, 12 area magistrates, four senior police supervisors and four senior administrative officers have been appointed in the area.The enforcement agencies have also reported significant seizures of illegal liquor, narcotics, freebies, and other materials and cash worth Rs 21.2 crore since the model code of conduct was enforced, indicating heightened vigilance in the election process.To ensure fear-free voting, 4,262 arms were deposited in the Anta area. During checkpoints, 8 illegal weapons and 5 cartridges were seized. Preventive action was taken against 1,134 individuals to control anti-social elements, while 2,716 individuals were bound down under bonds.During the election period, 13 inter-state checkpoints and 5 inter-district checkpoints will remain active, where continuous checking is being conducted under the surveillance of armed forces.Voting will take place at 268 polling stations in the Anta assembly constituency. The assembly has 2.28 lakh registered voters, including 1.16 lakh males, 1.11 lakh females, and 4 other voters.
