Jaipur: A 75-year-old woman suffered critical injuries after being hit by a speeding SUV in Vaishno Devi Nagar under Jhotwara police station limits Tuesday.The accident occurred around 7.45am, just 50 metre from the woman’s home. The impact hurled her nearly 10 feet onto the roadside. The occupants of the SUV stopped briefly but fled the spot after noticing the woman unconscious.The victim, Bhawari Devi, stepped out early that morning to visit the Vaishnav temple in her colony. As she was returning home on foot, the Fortuner struck her from behind. Eyewitnesses said the SUV was moving at high speed when it hit her. Nearby residents rushed to her aid, finding her unresponsive and badly injured.According to Devi’s family, she sustained multiple fractures, including to her skull and ribs. She was rushed to a private hospital in Jhotwara, where she remains admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.CCTV footage from the area captured the incident. The video shows the SUV ramming into Devi and then halting some distance ahead. Three young men are seen stepping out of the vehicle. They approach the victim, but after noticing her condition, they leave her on the road and flee the scene in their vehicle.Her family later filed a formal complaint at Jhotwara police station. The case was transferred to the Accident Police Station (West), which is leading the investigation. Police officials confirmed that they are analysing the CCTV footage to identify the vehicle’s registration number and trace the accused.Locals have expressed anger at the reckless driving and the driver’s failure to extend help. Police said efforts are underway to track down the suspects at the earliest.
