Jaipur: Lt General Manjinder Singh, Army Commander of the South Western Command, said Wednesday that a proposal has been submitted to the Rajasthan govt for establishing a defence corridor in the state. The announcement came during a technical seminar titled “Next Generation Combat – Shaping Tomorrow’s Military Today” at the Jaipur Military Station, organised in collaboration with Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS) and Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM).“There are only two defence corridors in the country. One is in Uttar Pradesh and the other is in Tamil Nadu. Rajasthan is a border state, with the longest border with Pakistan. This is why there are military establishments in Rajasthan, including army units and air bases. However, the military equipment used in Rajasthan has to be sent far away to these corridors for repairs, causing delays,” said Singh during the event. The Army Commander revealed positive developments regarding the proposal, stating, “If a military defence corridor is established in Rajasthan, all repair facilities would be available locally, benefiting both the state’s industry and the military. We proposed this to the Rajasthan govt.” Lt Gen Singh added that the state govt has assured to roll out a policy within six months to establish the defence industry in Rajasthan. During his keynote address, the Army Commander emphasised the critical role of science and technology in building a Viksit Bharat. He discussed the challenges of grey zone warfare and highlighted the importance of advanced systems, including drones and enhanced intelligence capabilities, citing their successful implementation in Op Sindoor. The event also saw the signing of an MoU between Sapta Shakti Command and MNIT Jaipur to enhance collaboration in defence technology research and development. The seminar brought together military leaders, defence planners, ministry of defence officials, DRDO representatives, industry leaders and research fellows, marking a collaborative step toward achieving a self-reliant defence ecosystem.
