Jaipur: The death toll in the oxygen cylinder explosion at an industrial unit in Vishwakarma Industrial Area (VKI) rose to three Sunday after another injured worker succumbed during treatment, a day after the blast ripped apart the facility and shook neighbourhoods over a kilometre away.Police identified the third victim as Shibu alias Anuva, a native of Jharkhand, who died while undergoing treatment, said VKI police station SHO Ravindra Singh Naruka. Two others, factory manager Vinod Gupta, 45, of Murlipura, and worker Munna Ray, 30, also from Jharkhand, died Saturday. The explosion occurred around 7.45 pm Saturday when an oxygen cylinder blew up during filling operations inside the factory, tearing off the tin shed roof and collapsing a wall. The force of the blast was such that Ray was blown to pieces, with body parts scattered across the premises, police said. Gupta suffered catastrophic injuries, including the loss of a limb, and died later that night in hospital. Anuva sustained critical injuries and remained under treatment until his death Sunday. The blast sent shockwaves through the industrial pocket, shattering window panes of dozens of nearby units and shops and leaving cracks in walls. Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and secured the area. A senior officer said a case of alleged negligence would be registered after post-mortem examinations were completed. Investigators are examining whether safety norms were violated by the factory owner and what precisely triggered the explosion.
