Dargah committee protests change of Monia Islamia school’s name

Ajmer: The managing committee of Ajmer Dargah, Anjuman Monia Fakhria Chishtiya Khuddam Khwaja Sahib Syedzadgah, has protested against the recent govt order to change the name of Monia Islamia Senior Secondary School to Govt Senior Secondary School, Station Road. The committee has written to the President of India along with writing to the principal secretary of Rajasthan’s secondary education department. The committee said Thursday that if the govt did not withdraw its order, it would knock on the doors of Rajasthan High Court.Secretary of the committee, Syed Sarwar Chishty, said the school’s name came from Moiniddin Chishti, the 13th-century Sufi saint who established the Ajmer Dargah, and that in 1892 the property where the school exists was given by the minority community for educational purposes. Chishty said over the next 133 years, students from all communities received education at this prestigious school and everyone in Ajmer and beyond knew of this school by the name of Monia Islamia.
