Jaipur: A Dalit man’s house was allegedly set on fire by pouring petrol in Kanota area of the city, with the entire act captured on CCTV.The complainant, Ganga Sahay Bairwa, accused Naresh Agarwal and his aides of orchestrating the attack, but the police filed an FIR only Monday, two days after the incident. The incident occurred on May 2 around 10.30pm, shortly after Bairwa received a threatening call from Naresh. During the call, Naresh told him it would be his last day and that he would burn everything to ashes. Bairwa, a contractor in the construction business, worked for Naresh and alleges that Naresh refused to pay the money for the work. When pressed for payment, the accused allegedly began issuing threats. On the night of the incident, after locking the main gate and preparing to sleep, the complainant’s son returned from a wedding. Around this time, an SUV pulled up near their home. A man with a white scarf stepped out, poured petrol on the house, and set it ablaze. The fire reportedly spread within 17 seconds, and one of the family’s motorcycles was gutted in the blaze. The family managed to extinguish the fire before it could cause further damage. CCTV footage of the incident is available, according to the complainant. He also said that the accused have been involved in multiple criminal cases, but the police have not acted on time. “Despite filing the complaint, the FIR was not filed on time,” he said. Bairwa further alleged that despite repeated appeals under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, no security or protection was provided to him. “If police had acted on my earlier requests, this could have been prevented,” he said. He is now urging senior officials to ensure that an FIR is registered.
