Jaipur/Bhilwara: Heavy rain triggered by Cyclone Montha continued to lash several parts of Rajasthan Tuesday, particularly in the Udaipur and Kota divisions, bringing temperatures down sharply. Udaipur was the worst hit, with showers that began Monday evening persisting through Tuesday afternoon, disrupting normal life. Nainwa in Bundi district recorded 130 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state.The Meteorological Department attributed the widespread showers to the cyclone’s impact and said rainfall activity is expected to reduce from Wednesday. Bhilwara district also witnessed intense rain since Monday morning, leading to a significant rise in water levels in rivers, ponds and dams. Several areas in and around the district recorded mild to moderate showers throughout the day. Jaipur saw light rainfall in the early hours of Tuesday. The maximum temperature in the city dropped to 21.8° Celsius — 10.6 degrees below normal — marking the coldest afternoon of the season so far. Cloud cover and a sharp nip in the air forced people to wear warm clothes even in the afternoon. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 18.4° C and 7.1 mm of rainfall. Following Nainwa, Kotadi in Bhilwara received 120 mm of rainfall. Nimbahera and Gangrar in Chittorgarh and Sagwada in Dungarpur recorded 110 mm each, while Vallabhnagar in Udaipur, Bhopalsagar in Chittorgarh and Bundi measured 100 mm. Chipabarod and Mangrol in Baran received 90 mm each, and Udaipur city and Hindoli in Bundi registered 80 mm. Rainfall ranging from 70 mm to 10 mm was recorded at multiple locations across Udaipur, Kota and Jaipur divisions. The continuous downpour since Monday has caused a drop of around 8°C in maximum temperatures across the state, leading to chilly conditions unusual for this time of the year. The Met office forecast partly cloudy skies and a gradual rise in temperatures in the coming days.
