Crime branch arrests drug trafficker living in slum area

Jaipur: City police’s crime branch arrested an alleged drug trafficker and seized 85 grams of smack worth an estimated Rs 17 lakh in an intelligence-led raid in Ashok Nagar, officials said Sunday. The accused, identified as Ravi Kushwah (23), was intercepted Saturday night when he arrived with a fresh supply of narcotics. Acting on specific inputs, a team laid a trap and moved in as the suspect entered the area, police said. A search led to the recovery of smack from his possession, after which he was taken into custody.Police said Kushwah is a resident of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh and had been living in a slum settlement in the Bhojpura area of Ashok Nagar. He was allegedly involved in drug trafficking for a prolonged period while operating from the locality.Investigators said the operation followed an alert by the crime branch’s intelligence unit about the movement of a supplier expected to deliver a consignment in the area. Teams were deployed discreetly, surveillance was mounted, and the suspect was picked up as soon as he surfaced, police said. The contraband was seized on the spot. “The value of the seized narcotics was pegged at around Rs 17 lakh in the international market,” police said. After the arrest, Kushwah was handed over to Ashok Nagar police station for interrogation. Investigators are questioning him to trace the supply chain, identify buyers, and map links to a possible larger network.Police said the accused sourced the narcotics from outside the state and used residential clusters and slum areas to avoid attention while trafficking. His movements, contacts and financial trail are under scrutiny, they said.
