Jaipur: The Congress’s much-awaited Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, an ambitious organisational restructuring drive in Rajasthan, entered its final stage Friday after the party finalised names for nearly 80% of district presidents for its 50 organisational districts.A series of high-level meetings held in Delhi has brought the process close to completion, party insiders said.According to them, AICC general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal, party state in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and AICC joint secretary Sasikanth Senthil held one-on-one meetings with around 30 central observers, who had submitted detailed reports on shortlisted individuals or lists of potential candidates for each post of district president.“In the meetings, observers were asked to justify the names they proposed”, said a senior party functionary. “Separate one-on-one validations were held with state president Govind Singh Dotasra and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully in subsequent rounds of discussions”. “Nearly 80% of names proposed by central observers matched those suggested by an internal survey conducted by the AICC”, the source added.“The remaining 20% of district president positions are expected to be finalised after incorporating the recommendations of Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, and Harish Chaudhary in the coming days”, a source said.Former chief minister Gehlot, who travelled from Bihar to Delhi on Friday, met Venugopal to hand over his list of recommendations. Pilot, meanwhile, is reported to have met or called several party higher-ups in Delhi to put forward his choice of candidates.“The job of the state leadership is now over. The ball is now in Venugopal’s court, who will hold consultations with Rahul Gandhi before the official announcement, expected in the first week of November”, said a senior Congress functionary. The Congress has formed panels comprising the names of one, three, or six candidates for each organisational district to ensure a balanced representation of regions and communities.Party strategists see this political exercise – aimed at energising the cadre, balancing factional equations, and sending a strong message of unity within Rajasthan Congress – as critical ahead of upcoming local body and panchayat elections in the state.“This is not just an organisational reshuffle — it’s a political reset”, remarked a senior Congress insider, reflecting the sentiment within the state unit.
