Jaipur: Jaipur witnessed a different kind of Republic Day as street dog lovers and animal rights activists came together at Albert Hall under the nationwide campaign, ‘Republic for All Lives’, seeking a review of Supreme Court’s recent order on street dogs.The event saw participation of street dog lovers, animal activists, social workers, and citizens, who collectively stressed that India’s Republic was not limited to humans alone and included respect and rights for all living beings.

Participants took a pledge to uphold the spirit of Articles 51A(g) and 51A(h) of the Constitution, which emphasise protection of the natural environment, compassion for living creatures, and promotion of a scientific and humane outlook.Animal lover Santana Khurana said India’s democratic identity is defined not only by laws and systems, but also by humanity and compassion towards all forms of life. Poonam Khandelwal of NGO ‘Hope and Beyond’ said Republic Day was not just a national celebration but a reminder to practise constitutional ideals in daily life. tnn
