Bhilwara: In a crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, the Chittorgarh Police successfully seized drugs valued at over Rs 7 crore during a two-month long crackdown that resulted in the arrest of 40 traffickers. The operations, which unfolded in July and Aug 2025, saw the district police registering 34 trafficking cases and detaining numerous suspects involved in the illicit drug trade. Chittorgarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Manish Tripathi addressed the media Monday, highlighting the pervasive issue of drug abuse that continues to plague the state. “We confiscated an impressive array of narcotics, including over 40 quintals of poppy straw, 5.5-kg of opium, 1-kg of cannabis and 580 grams of smack. Furthermore, 26 vehicles used in drug trafficking were seized, with 20 of those vehicles subsequently auctioned off, generating around Rs 30 lakh in revenue for the district,” the SP said. In a concerted effort to combat the drug menace, Chittorgarh Police destroyed over 36 quintals of drugs in 10 cases, encompassing poppy straw, cannabis and smack. Additionally, a staggering 43-kg of opium were disposed of at an opium factory across 23 cases. Tripathi reiterated the police’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks, emphasising the importance of community involvement in reporting suspicious activities. To bolster its efforts, Chittorgarh Police are set to maintain robust checkpoints, increase patrols and deploy special teams to ensure effective actions against traffickers. “Drug abuse silently harms individuals and has the power to dismantle families, causing lasting physical, mental and social damage,” Tripathi said.
