Alwar: Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully alleged that changes to the Critical Tiger Habitat (CTH) of the Sariska Tiger Reserve was a ‘major scam’ aimed at benefiting hotel and mining interests. He said he had sought clarification from officials during the meeting but did not receive satisfactory answers. He asked them, “Are you changing the CTH to operate the mines in Tehla?” He also accused the officials of allegedly working under the pressure of union minister Bhupendra Yadav and forest minister Sanjay Sharma. Jully’s remarks angered villagers of the Tehla area, some of whom identified themselves as Congress workers. The meeting was being held at the district collectorate auditorium Wednesday, during which Jully questioned district collector Artika Shukla, CCF Sangram Singh, and DFO Abhimanyu Saharan over the proposed changes. As he exited the venue, around 30 villagers led by Kamlesh Kumar Meena surrounded him and objected to his claims, saying they supported the proposed CTH changes and accused him of spreading false information and creating confusion. They said the changes would benefit local residents, adding that earlier they could not even get stones to build houses.Following this, Jully’s supporters and people from nearby villages got into a scuffle, after which police had to intervene and bring the situation under control. After the meeting, Jully spoke to the media and reiterated his allegations.
